AP monthly photo contest

Each month The Associated Press honors photographers for outstanding coverage while on assignment. 

The winners of the April 2026 AP Photo Contest are:

Chris O'Meara for News Photography Single Image, for his photo of NASA’s Artemis II moon rocket lifting off from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. 

Emilio Morenatti for News Photography Story, for his coverage in Lebanon of the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran.

Vadim Ghirda for Feature Photography Single Image, for his photo of people attending the Orthodox Easter service at the Armenian cathedral in Bucharest, Romania.

Ramon Espinosa for Feature Photography Story, for his coverage of seniors inside Cuba who are among the hardest hit by the severe economic crisis on the island.

Rebecca Blackwell for Sports Photography Single Image, for her photo of Curtis Blaydes taking a hit from Josh Hokit in a heavyweight bout at the UFC 327 mixed martial arts event in Miami.

Ashley Landis and David J. Phillip for Sports Photography Story, for their combined coverage of the Chevron Championship LPGA golf tournament in Houston.
