TOKYO 2020

Over the course of the Tokyo Olympics, Associated Press photographers recorded 66,621 images. From Simone Biles’ decision to withdraw from competition and Allyson Felix becoming the most decorated U.S. track and field athlete to new sports like 3x3 basketball, skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing and karate, AP photographers captured it all amid a pandemic.

 

PYEONGCHANG 2018

For the Pyeongchang Olympics, meanwhile, athletes from North and South Korea played under one flag for the joint Koreas women’s hockey team. Also at those Games, Chloe Kim became the youngest Olympic snowboarder to win gold. New sports included: big air snowboarding, mixed doubles curling, mass start speed skating, and mixed team alpine skiing.
