Each month The Associated Press honors photographers for outstanding coverage while on assignment. 

The winners of the May 2026 AP Photo Contest are:

Santiago Saldarriaga for News Photography Story, for coverage in Colombia of an attack on the Pan-American Highway that killed at least a dozen people and was blamed on dissident groups of the former FARC rebels.

Matias Delacroix for Feature Photography Single Image, for a photo of an effigy of U.S. President Donald Trump burning during an International Workers' Day march marking May Day in Panama City.

Matias Delacroix for Feature Photography Story, for coverage of the 7th Pollera Congo Festival in Portobelo, Panama.

Lee Jin-man for Sports Photography Single Image, for a photo of North Korea's Naegohyang Women's FC Kim Kyong Yong celebrating with teammates after scoring a goal during the AFC Women's Champions League semifinal match n Suwon, South Korea.

Jehad Alshrafi for Sports Photography Story, for a story on a women's boxing club in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip.
