Each month The Associated Press honors photographers for outstanding coverage while on assignment.

The winners of the August 2026 AP Photo Contest are:

Santiago Saldarriaga for News Photography Single Image, for his photo of residents and rescue workers searching through the rubble after an earthquake struck Cali, Colombia.

Niranjan Shrestha, Dar Yasin and Rajesh Kumar Singh for News Photography Story, for their combined coverage of the deadly flash floods in Nepal.

Frank Augstein for Feature Photography Single Image, for his photo of people observing a partial solar eclipse at Northala Fields in London.

Francisco Seco for Feature Photography Story, for his series of photos showing Ukranians observing moments of remembrance for those lost during the ongoing war with Russia.

Carolyn Kaster for Sports Photography Single Image, for her photo of Cincinnati Reds' Sal Stewart diving across home plate to score during the eight inning of a baseball game in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Achmad Ibrahim for Sports Photography Story, for his series of images from the Humanoid Robot Games in China.
