Each month The Associated Press honors photographers for outstanding coverage while on assignment.

The winners for the December 2022 AP Photo Contest are Manish Swarup for News Photography Single Image, for his photo of a cycle rickshaw puller looking on as German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock rides on an e-rickshaw during her tour of Chandni Chowk in the old quarters of New Delhi, India.

Matias Delacroix for News Photography Story, for his coverage of the death in Brazil of soccer legend Pele.

Maya Alleruzzo for Feature Photography Single Image, for her photo of a child wearing a tiny Santa Claus costume in Jerusalem’s Old City during the Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

Anupam Nath for Feature Photography Story, for his series of on a transgender beauty pageant in India.

Pavel Golovkin for Sports Photography Single Image, for his photo of France's goalkeeper Hugo Lloris making a save before England's Harry Kane can score during the World Cup quarterfinal soccer match between England and France at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar.

Rodrigo Abd, Matilde Campodonico and Gustavo Garello for for Sports Photography Story, for their combined coverage of celebrations in Buenos Aires for World Cup soccer champions Argentina.
