Stars bring glamor to Venice Film Festival opening
Venice International Film Festival, the oldest of its kind in the world, kicked off Wednesday.
Oscar winning director Damien Chazelle opened the 73rd edition with ‘First Man’,
the story of Neil Armstrong’s expedition to the moon. Heart-throb Ryan Gosling, who plays Armstrong, set pulses racing as he arrived on the lido by Venetian boat to a chorus of screams from fans. He was accompanied by British starlet Claire Foy, better known for playing The Queen in ‘The Crown’.
Emma Stone also graced the red carpet for Yorgos Lanthimos’ royal romp, ‘The Favourite’, a serious award contender starring Olivia Coleman as Queen Anne, also in attendance.
This was quickly followed by yet another World premiere, ‘A Star Is Born’. Venice crowds went wild as Bradley Cooper, who starred and directed the film, was joined by the wonderfully idiosyncratic Lady Gaga, making her big screen debut in the musical remake.
The festival runs until the 8th of September, when the famous Golden Lion award will be presented for the best film.
