Once again, the expectations of Venezuelans hoping for change were dashed.
The country sank back into political stalemate in May after an opposition call to the military to overthrow President Nicolás Maduro. The attempt to seize power failed.
With both sides unable to deliver a knock-out blow, Venezuela spiraled deeper into neglect, isolation and desperation.
Power cuts remained widespread, though were less severe in Caracas, the capital. Fuel shortages took hold across a nation with massive oil reserves, creating more hardship.
Meanwhile, Norway announced that it was mediating between the Venezuelan government and the opposition in an attempt to reach a deal to end the political crisis. The opposition said the last meeting ended without agreement.
