Each month The Associated Press honors photographers for outstanding coverage while on assignment.

The winners for the August 2022 AP Photo Contest are Mukhtar Khan for News Photography Single Image, for his photo of Indian policemen detaining a Kashmiri Shiite Muslim for participating in a religious procession during restrictions in Srinagar, Indian controlled Kashmir.

David Goldman for Feature Photography Single Image, for his photo of a young girl holding her dog while waving goodbye to her grandparents from an evacuation train departing Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, eastern Ukraine.

David Goldman for Feature Photography Story, for his coverage of daily life in war-torn Ukraine.

Pavel Golovkin for Sports Photography Single Image, for his photo of England's Courtney Tulloch performing during the Men's All-Around Final at the European Gymnastics Championships in Munich, Germany.
