AP monthly photo contest

Each month The Associated Press honors photographers for outstanding coverage while on assignment.

The winners for the March 2022 AP Photo Contest are Evgeniy Maloletka for News Photography Single Image, for his photo of Ukrainian emergency employees and volunteers carrying an injured pregnant woman from a maternity hospital damaged by an airstrike in Mariupol, Ukraine.

Evgeniy Maloletka for News Photography Story, for his coverage inside the Ukrainian besieged city of Mariupol during the ongoing war against Russia.

Dar Yasin for Feature Photography Single Image, for his photo of a toy sitting on a shelf by a bullet-ridden wall of a house damaged in a gunbattle on the outskirts of Srinagar, India.

Bernat Armangue for Feature Photography Story, for his series on workers taking safety preparations in the Andrey Sheptytsky National Museum in the event of an attack on the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.

Ashley Landis for Sports Photography Single Image, for her photo of Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard warming up before an NBA basketball game against the Philadelphia 76ers in Los Angeles.

Mark Humphrey for Sports Photography Story, for his coverage of the NCAA women’s college basketball Southeastern Conference tournament championship in Nashville, Tenn.
