Britain EU immigration

On a clear day, the coast of France is visible from Dover's famous white cliffs, and they provided a vital vantage point for the early spotting of German bombers heading toward London during World War II.

The concern now is not enemy attack. Instead, it is Europeans who arrive legally under European Union rules guaranteeing the free movement of people.

Immigration is a key issue as Britons near a June 23 vote on whether to leave the EU, and it's a topic much on the minds of people in Dover, Britain's prime port for ferry and vehicle traffic across the English channel.

Here's a gallery of photos from Dover by Associated Press photographer Matt Dunham.
