World in review

World in Review is a collection of five photo galleries curated by Associated Press photo editors from each region of the world: Asia, Europe and Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean and the United States. This month’s selection from Asia includes images of emergency personnel assisting passengers exit a commercial plane after it crashed in Taiwan, Lunar New Year celebrations in China, and Britain's Prince William's visit to Tokyo.

In Europe and Africa, Russian police investigate the death of Boris Nemtsov in Moscow, a U.S. man is gored by a bull during the “Carnaval del Toro” in Spain and a Congolese soccer fan looks out over the soccer pitch during the African Cup of Nations semifinal soccer match.

In Latin America and the Caribbean, a protester in Mexico City is injured in a march marking the fifth month of the disappearance of 43 students, Rio de Janeiro celebrates Carnival and a Gentoo penguin feeds its baby in the middle of an enchanting Antarctic summer landscape.

In the Middle East, a man is comforted as he mourns over Egyptian Coptic Christians who were captured and killed by militants affiliated with the Islamic State group, an avalanche covers the Paryan district in Afghanistan and a mural of a playful-looking kitten, presumably painted by British street graffiti artist Banksy, is seen in the northern Gaza Strip.

In the U.S., snow billows in the air as the Marine One helicopter lands on the South Lawn of the White House, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady celebrates a touchdown during Super Bowl XLIX and an aerial view reveals the Brooklyn Bridge surrounded by ice.
