Each month The Associated Press honors photographers for outstanding coverage while on assignment.

The winners for the April 2021 AP Photo Contest are Channi Anand for News Photography Single Image, for his photo of a relative of a person who died of COVID-19 breaking down during cremation in Jammu, India.

Julio Cortez for News Photography Story, for his series of images documenting events surrounding the murder trial against former Minneapolis police Officer Derek Chauvin.

Emilio Morenatti for Feature Photography Single Image, for his image of Javier Anto, 90, reacting in front of his wife Carmen Panzano, 92, through a window separating a nursing home she is at from the street in Barcelona, Spain.

Petros Giannakouris for Feature Photography Story, for his series on businesses in Athens, Greece, which have remained shut since November when the Greek government imposed a second lockdown to curb the spread of COVID-19 infections.

Charles Rex Arbogast for Sports Photography Single Image, for his photo of Tampa Bay Lightning's Erik Cernak (81) pushing Chicago Blackhawks' Connor Murphy to the ice during their fight in the second period of an NHL hockey game in Chicago.

Ashley Landis for Sports Photography Story, for her series on the TYR Pro Swim Series swim meet in Mission Viejo, California.
